Getting Started in Med Lab Tech

The medical lab technology program is a selective admission program that admits students based on the number of available clinical sites. If you’ve been admitted to San Jac and are ready to dive into the program, follow these steps to get started.
  1. Review Application Information

    Before jumping into the program, it’s important for all students to review the application information form. This form provides a comprehensive overview of everything you need to know about getting started in the medical lab technology program.

  2. Take Your Prereqs

    Next step? Completing your prerequisite courses, according to the curriculum approved in the college catalog. This includes MATH 1314, ENGL 1301, and MLAB 1201. Students must also take BIO 2404 or one of the following combinations: either BIO 2301/2101 or BIO 2401 and BIO 2302/2102. Students must earn a “C” or above in these courses to be admitted to the medical lab technology program.

  3. Apply to the Program

    Use the link below to apply to the Medical Lab Technology program. Applications are accepted April 1 - June 1 for Fall entrance and September 1 - December 1 for Spring entrance.

  4. CastleBranch

    Students are required to create and complete a CastleBranch account which will include: 

    • BLS Certification
    • Immunization Tracker
    • Background Check
    • Drug Screen
    • Proof of Medical Insurance

  5. Submit Your Transcripts

    All students—especially those looking to transfer credits—must submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, including high school and San Jac.

  6. Submit Immunization Documentation

    Ensure you’re up to date on all required immunizations, including tuberculosis, varicella, hepatitis B and C, the flu, and COVID-19. Work with your doctor to retrieve your documentation, then submit it directly to the department.

  7. Submit Previous Work History

    In some cases, students might be able to transfer previous medical work history into course credits. Use the form below to submit any experience you think might be relevant.

  8. Attend an Information Session

    Prior to applying to the program, all students are required to attend an information session, where students can ask faculty and staff critical questions about the program.
