Student Employee Training (SET)

How to Get Started With SET

If you work at San Jacinto College in a part-time or work-study position and are a current student, Student Employee Training (SET) is for you!

SET complements your on-campus work experience with opportunities to build your skills, develop your leadership potential and prepare for your future career. The program is designed to help you grow as a student employee and succeed in the workplace.
  1. Benefits of Participating

SET gives you the opportunity to attend free professional development workshops and career events on topics that support your personal and professional growth.

    • Build valuable skills in communication, time management and stress management.
    • Make the most of your student job by turning your work experience into an opportunity to grow personally and professionally.
    • Connect your work to your future by exploring how your student job can help you reach your career goals.
    • Build your network by connecting with other students, professionals and members of the San Jacinto College community.

  2. Minimum Requirements

As a student employee, you are required to attend two (2) workshops per academic semester, including your orientation workshop.

  3. Certification Requirements

Attendance at events and workshops totaling at least 35 points. See Student Employment Training: Passport to Career Success for a list of qualifying events and workshops.

When you complete the SET certification requirements, you will:

    • Receive a framed certificate of completion
    • Be able to list “Student Employee Training Certification” on your resume
    • Receive a letter of reference from the Dean of Student Development.
In addition, for every event/workshop you attend, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a grand prize!

  4. How do I participate?

Participation is free! If you plan to attend a workshop during your regularly scheduled work shift, you will need permission from your leader to determine if it will count as work time.

To earn credit for attending a workshop and/or event, you must register by logging into San Jac Works and clicking "Events" then "Workshops” on the left-hand side. If you have any questions, please contact Career.Centers@sjcd.edu.
