The San Jacinto College Ravens baseball team concluded its 2025 spring season play with an overall record of 36-15 and a conference record of 27-8, securing second place in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIV South Division.

The team's turning point came early in conference play when it swept Galveston, igniting a remarkable 22-3 run to close out the regular season. This dominant stretch showcased both the team's resilience and growing confidence as players settled into their roles.

"We are a sophomore-led team, and the chemistry has always been solid," said Eric Weaver, Ravens head coach. "It just took time to figure out which players fit best in certain roles within the pitching staff and the lineup. Our freshman are now a year into their college career, and they have adjusted by this time. It is always night and day comparing August to May."

Several Ravens delivered exceptional performances throughout the season. Left-handed pitcher Ty Roman (Diboll HS/Diboll, Texas) earned Conference Pitcher of the Year honors, and right- handed pitcher Jarrett Bonet (Escuela Fernando Callejo/Manati, Puerto Rico) established himself as one of the most dominant closers.

The offensive attack proved balanced, with different players stepping up at key moments. Outfielder McCabe Moyer (IMG Academy/Washougal, Washington), outfielder Eduardo Castillo (Leon HS/Tallahassee, Florida), infielder R.J. (Rafael) Furcal Jr. (American Heritage HS/Weston, Florida), and utility player Landon Hunt (Clear Brook HS/Houston, Texas) all delivered clutch performances when the team needed them most.

As the Ravens prepare for tournament play, they'll rely heavily on their sophomore leadership and the mental toughness developed throughout the season. In close games, the team demonstrated remarkable poise.

"Our players have been through just about every scenario possible," said Kory Koehler, Ravens assistant coach. "From blowouts to walk-offs, to wins and losses.  Nothing will come as a surprise. They are very even keeled and respond to adversity very well."

The Ravens have a clear pitching plan heading into the tournament, with Roman and right-handed pitcher Patrick Lewis (Manvel HS/Manvel, Texas) slated to start games one and two.

Eric Weaver coaches from the dugout

For the freshmen experiencing their first collegiate postseason, the message from Weaver is simple: "Pressure is what your mind is making of a moment. They've been playing baseball their whole lives. Go play and have fun doing it!"

The Ravens' first postseason opponent will be Tyler Junior College, a well-coached team led by head coach Brett Doe. While preparation for this specific matchup is ongoing, the Ravens plan to stick with the approach that brought them success all season.

"Our goal was and still remains to win our last game in Junction (at the NJCAA World Series)," said Weaver.

The Ravens' outstanding performance during the regular season was recognized with multiple players earning all-conference honors:

First Team All-Conference:

  • Jarrett Bonet (Escuela Fernando Callejo/Manati, Puerto Rico) – Reliever of the Year
  • Landon Hunt (Clear Brook HS/Houston, Texas)
  • Ty Roman (Diboll HS/Diboll, Texas)- Pitcher of the Year
