Dr. Albert Talley is the Department Chair for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Education, a new degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. He has served in this role since 2023 and was tasked with launching San Jacinto College’s second bachelor’s degree.
Albert has worked at San Jacinto College since 2011. He previously served as the department chair of Education, Child Development, and Psychology, while also supervising the Central Campus Children’s Center. During his time as chair, he worked with faculty on maintaining accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for the Associate of Applied Science in Child Development. He also served as the Primary Investigator for the CCAMPIS grant that prioritized child care assistance for students who are single parents. Dr. Talley also previously served as the lead of SJC’s Central Campus Child Development advisory committee.
Prior to his leadership roles at SJC, Albert served as a faculty member and assistant basketball coach at San Jacinto College, Paris Junior College, and Panola College. During this time as a coach, he successfully supported and mentored approximately 73 students through their successful transfers to four-year institutions. Albert began his career in higher education serving in various roles at Texas Wesleyan University as an Athletic Liaison to Student Housing and later as a housing Resident Director.
He was also a member of the 2006 NAIA National Championship basketball team at Texas Wesleyan University where he was honored with a Pattison Family Foundation Champions of Character Scholarship Award through the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics. He was awarded the 2006 Gene & Anne Burge Sportsmanship Award for a Male Athlete while at Texas Wesleyan University.
Albert is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), The Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TXAEYC), and the Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA). He currently serves as a member of the Gulf Coast Community Services Association and Avance Advisory committees, as a board member for the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System, and as the chair for the Deer Park ISD Career and Technical Education advisory committee.
Albert holds a Doctorate of Higher Education Leadership from Northcentral University, a Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine, and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Texas Wesleyan University.
Albert was born and raised in North Texas, is married, and has two amazing children. He believes in the power of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Education degree and knows how much value it will offer to the San Jacinto College community and the surrounding school districts.
