An emergency is defined as an urgent, unexpected, and usually dangerous situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or environment and requires immediate action. Emergency situations may include:
As soon as feasible after an event occurs, the College will send alerts via SJC AlertMe (emergency notification system), the College website, and other sources as deemed appropriate. In the event of a campus emergency, all college business operations could be forced to cease, and the campus declared closed, shut down, or under an evacuation order depending on the situation.
Usual exit paths may not be accessible during an emergency. So it is necessary to identify additional emergency exits beforehand.

Each campus has multiple parking lots and building exteriors that are equipped with
Blue Light Phones. These devices are easily identified by locating a yellow pole with
a blue light attached to the top.

The Clery Act designates employees of the campus community as campus security authorities (CSAs). These individuals do not perform the same duties as our police officers.
When CSAs become aware of a crime that has occurred on or around campus, they have an obligation to report the information to SJC PD, the Title IV Office, or the Clery Compliance Manager.
CSAs play an important role in keeping the San Jac community safe. They relay important information that keeps our community informed and ensures individuals have access to the support and resources needed.
The function of the CSA is to report to the official or office designated by the College to collect crime report information, such as the campus police or security department, those allegations of Clery Act crimes that they received.
CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act violations or crimes. They may witness the crime, overhear it, and/or have it reported to them.
The CSA is not responsible for determining whether a crime took place, nor should they try to apprehend the alleged perpetrator.
